![]() To this end, I had the honor of providing both written and oral testimony to a joint session of the New Jersey Senate and Assembly Education Committees on school security on April 5th. One way is to advocate for resources, training, and policy changes at the State and Federal levels. At a recent Board meeting, community members asked what they could do to help address safety and security in our schools. It is essential that we all advocate for the safety and security of our schools and all those who work and learn in them. I’d like to extend my appreciation to the Board of Education for approving this position as part of the next budget. This person will have the sole responsibility of working on the safety and security of our buildings, collaborating with local, county, and state first responders, and providing our faculty, staff, students, and parents with training and information. In addition to improvements being made through the referendum, I have included a position in our upcoming school budget for a Chief of School Safety. I appreciate your understanding as we move forward with these important school improvements.Ī number of projects are now underway to improve security at each of our schools. With that said, from time to time, there may be minor disruptions and occasional class movement to address work on specific areas of our schools. As the construction phase begins, we will make every effort to minimize the distraction to our students' learning and the school environment. The remaining projects will be bid on in the fall to begin next summer. With the Board of Education's approval, bids have been awarded on a number of projects which will start shortly and carry on over the next two years. This issue includes a briefing on referendum progress, some summer happenings in our elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as information on our transition to Google Apps for Education and the Arts in our schools. Welcome to the second edition of the HTSD Community Update. ![]()
